River Greta · Greta Bridge to Brignall

Bridge Beat

A delightful stretch of the Greta offering both double-bank and single-bank fishing in beautiful surroundings.

River Greta

The beat begins with double-bank fishing from Greta Bridge to the large and distinctive Scotchman's Stone on the north bank. Eastwood Hall can be seen upstream on the opposite bank. From the stone, fishing continues on the north bank only as far as the upstream field boundary at Brignall Glebe, a field containing the ruins of St Mary's Church.

Fishing approachTravel light. A shorter rod and light tackle are recommended. A wading staff is essential, and because parts of the beat are remote it is sensible to tell somebody where you are going and carry a mobile phone.
